The Ministry of Information and Communications (Vietnam) has postponed the shutdown date for 2G services to October 15, 2024, from the originally scheduled September 16 date. This decision, outlined in Circular No. 10/2024/TT-BTTTT issued on September 13, 2024, temporarily suspends certain provisions of earlier circulars related to frequency planning for mobile systems.
The delay was requested by telecommunications companies due to natural disasters affecting communication for approximately 1.8 million 2G-only subscribers. While this postponement addresses immediate needs, the Ministry remains committed to eventually discontinuing 2G services. The suspension will be in effect from September 16 to October 15, 2024.
