Starting April 29, 2024, the UK will enforce a consumer connectable product security regime, compelling manufacturers to meet minimum security standards. These standards are drawn from the UK's Code of Practice for Consumer IoT security, global standard ETSI EN 303 645, and advice from the National Cyber Security Centre.
The regime, governed by the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act 2022 and corresponding regulations, ensures that manufacturers and businesses across the supply chain prevent the sale of insecure consumer products to UK consumers and businesses. The PSTI Act received Royal Assent in December 2022, and the regulations were signed into law on September 14, 2023. The regime officially takes effect on April 29, 2024.
