Qatar Bans Import of 2G/3G Phones and Sets Deadline to End 3G Services by December 2025

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) of Qatar has announced that third-generation (3G) mobile services will be discontinued by December 31, 2025. The CRA's decision, made after consultations with stakeholders, aims to enhance the efficiency of telecommunications by reallocating resources to Fourth Generation (4G/LTE) and Fifth Generation (5G) networks. Additionally, CRA has banned the import of mobile phones that only support 2G and 3G technologies but will approve devices that are compatible with 4G and Voice over LTE (VoLTE), provided they meet CRA standards and have the necessary approvals.
