FCC Proposes New Rules to Enhance Security of Telecommunications Certification Bodies and Test Labs

On May 23, 2024, the FCC published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to enhance network security by imposing new national security responsibilities on Telecommunications Certification Bodies (TCBs) and test labs. These responsibilities include prohibiting any TCBs or test labs directly or indirectly owned or controlled by entities on the Covered List from participating in the equipment authorization program. The proposal aims to ensure that these entities are not influenced by foreign adversaries or other untrustworthy actors, thereby protecting the integrity of the equipment authorization process and the security of the U.S. communications supply chain.
